Tips to Fight Sugar during the Holidays

The holidays are well known for sugar surges. Parties. Cookie baking. Candy in stockings. This can be a double edge sword for parents that want their kids to participate in traditions, but also recognize the effect it can take on mental health and behavior.

Here are some ways to help mitigate the effects of sugar:

* Stay hydrated with water. Not only do our bodies require water, it helps flush the system.

* Ensure there is an adequate amount of high quality protein, starting with breakfast. A body fueled well will have a greater chance of going for the sweet carbs as a treat, not as a source of fuel.

* Enjoy the treats, but work to make sure they stay that way- a treat.

* Keep the body moving! Physical activity will give that sugar an outlet, as well as help flush the system.

Enjoy the holidays and all that the treats entail. Support yourself in the process.
